CONSERVATION

Many projects involve work to or within the curtilage of existing listed buildings.  With thorough knowledge and understanding of heritage planning policies and conservation principles we can assist with work in or around your heritage asset.

We have previous commercial experience working on conservation and heritage specialist projects which include multiple schemes throughout large historic estates and works to smaller listed buildings and structures.  Some examples of these are shown below.

Collingwood,
Trafalgar Lawn

Planning permission and Listed Building Consent were successfully obtained for a series of sensitive internal and external alterations to Collingwood, No.2 Trafalgar Lawn, a Grade II listed Georgian Regency townhouse within the Newport Conservation Area of Barnstaple.

Dating from the early 19th century, the property forms part of the historic Trafalgar Lawn terrace developed by Lt Lewis Hole RN who funded the development through prize monies earned during his role aboard HMS Revenge in the battle of Trafalgar.

The proposals were carefully designed to preserve the building’s architectural significance while enabling sympathetic adaptation and refurbishment to support contemporary use.

Netherdowns Linney,
Weare Giffard

This project involved the sensitive conversion of a redundant agricultural cart linney barn at Netherdowns Farm, Weare Giffard, into a new family home. The site forms part of a historic farm complex containing several Grade II listed buildings and the barn itself was curtilage listed.

Careful consideration was given to its setting, curtilage relationship and wider rural context. The proposals respond to local landscape character with a conservation led approach, delivering a respectful reuse of the building while supporting sustainable rural living.

The proposals achieve a careful balance between heritage conservation and the delivery of new housing through the reuse of an existing building.
