New Dwelling
Buckland Brewer, Torridge
A new dwelling located in the village of Buckland Brewer, Torridge.
The site comprised an infill plot in a sustainable location, close to village services, amenities and sustainable transport options. The dwelling was carefully designed to take advantage of panoramic views across the surrounding countryside, whilst being set into the ground to reduce its visual impact and minimise the effect on views from neighbouring properties. The design sought to create a contemporary but contextually appropriate home, responding to the character and scale of the surrounding village.
The new house incorporates a range of sustainable technologies, including solar photovoltaic panels, an air source heat pump and high levels of insulation and airtightness, helping to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. The design also makes use of large areas of carefully positioned glazing to maximise natural daylight and provide a strong connection with the surrounding landscape.
The project demonstrates how a sensitively designed new dwelling can make effective use of an infill site while responding to its landscape setting, neighbouring properties and the wider character of the village.
